Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I have a pain and soreness under my left ribcage that has been bothering me. Along with that, I’ve been feeling really gassy, bloated, and constipated. The discomfort seems to come and go, but it’s been persistent for a few days. I haven’t made any major changes to my diet or routine. Should I be concerned, and what can I do to feel better?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

1. The pain and soreness under your left ribcage, combined with bloating, gas, and constipation, could be linked to various gastrointestinal conditions such as trapped gas, constipation-related discomfort, or even an underlying issue affecting your spleen, stomach, or pancreas.

2. To determine the exact cause, I recommend a pelvi-abdominal ultrasound. This imaging test will help evaluate your abdominal organs, including the intestines, liver, spleen, and pancreas, to rule out any abnormalities.

3. While waiting for further evaluation, consider making dietary adjustments by increasing fiber intake, drinking plenty of water, and engaging in light physical activity to improve digestion. However, if your symptoms worsen or include severe pain, nausea, vomiting, or significant changes in bowel movements, you should seek medical attention promptly. Consulting a doctor will ensure you receive the appropriate diagnosis and treatment based on your ultrasound results.

Thanks
