Hello Doctor,
I've had a round red bruise on my left leg thigh for almost over two weeks by now. Should I be concerned in any way? It hasn't shown signs of healing or changed color.
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
I'm sorry to hear about your concern. A persistent bruise for over two weeks could be due to various factors, including but not limited to, an injury, blood clot, or a skin condition. While it's not uncommon for some bruises to last longer than others, especially if they're larger or more severe, they should progressively change color—from a deep purplish-blue, to green or yellow—as they heal.
If the bruise on your thigh is not showing signs of healing, or if it's associated with pain, swelling, or warmth, it's important to have it evaluated. I recommend that you schedule an appointment as soon as possible so we can take a closer look at the area and determine the appropriate course of action. Please do not attempt to self-treat the bruise as it could potentially exacerbate the condition.
In the meantime, you can help alleviate any discomfort by elevating the leg, applying a cold compress for 15-20 minutes at a time, and avoiding strenuous activities that may strain the affected area. I look forward to seeing you soon.
Thanks
