Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I’ve noticed something unusual when I urinate. There are bubbles in the urine, but it’s not a lot or foamy. After a minute or so, the bubbles disappear, but there are still some little ones left, though not many. I feel like something’s wrong. Could this be a sign of an issue I should be concerned about?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

The presence of bubbles in your urine can be a sign of protein leakage. This could be due to an infection or potentially kidney dysfunction. If you're experiencing any burning or stinging while urinating, or if you have fever and chills, it could indicate a urinary tract infection (UTI). Additionally, if you're waking up at night to urinate, this could be an early sign of stress on your kidney function.

I recommend getting a few tests done to assess your kidney health:

1. Serum creatinine

2. Urine Albumin-Creatinine Ratio

3. Urinalysis

If the results come back normal, it may be a condition called orthostatic proteinuria, which is common in young males and usually isn't a cause for concern.

Thanks
