Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I hope this message finds you well. Recently, I've observed cysts on the inside of both of my eyes, specifically located in the upper eyelid and in the same area. I'm feeling uncertain about how to address them. Can you kindly provide me with some guidance on this matter?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

In addressing cysts on the eyelids, it's crucial to consider various factors to provide accurate guidance. Without a clear photo, complete history, and proper examination, pinpointing the exact cause of the cysts becomes challenging. However, based on your described symptoms, many patients with similar issues could be diagnosed with chalazia.

Chalazia, characterized by the blockage of the oil gland in the eye, often present with symptoms akin to those you've described. Yet, it's essential to stress that only a thorough examination by a healthcare professional can provide an accurate diagnosis. This examination allows for differentiation between similar conditions, such as conjunctival cysts or chalazia.

While awaiting a proper examination, there are measures you can take to alleviate discomfort and protect your eyes. Refrain from rubbing or frequently touching your eyes, as this may worsen symptoms. Additionally, wearing sunglasses outdoors can shield your eyes from dust and direct sunlight, promoting overall eye health.

Given the uncertainty surrounding the cysts' exact cause, I strongly advise scheduling an appointment for a thorough evaluation. This will facilitate an accurate diagnosis and the formulation of an appropriate treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.

Thanks
