Hello Doctor,
I've been noticing several symptoms and I'm worried I might have diabetes. I'm thirsty all the time, and I often experience numbness and tingling in my hands and feet. My mouth feels dry frequently, and I crave sugar and fast food a lot. My urine has a strong smell, and I sometimes have stomach problems after eating or feel full really fast. I also get headaches and feel tired all the time. I've also noticed gray patches under my armpits, and one morning my blood sugar was 169 after waking up. Occasionally, I feel shaky and dizzy. Could these symptoms indicate diabetes or something else? Should I be concerned?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
Based on the symptoms you’ve mentioned, diabetes could be a concern, especially if you are experiencing frequent urination, extreme thirst, and constant hunger—these three signs are typically considered indicative of diabetes. However, to confirm if you have diabetes, it’s essential to do some blood tests, including checking your fasting blood glucose, random blood glucose levels, an Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT), or HbA1c levels.
The other symptoms you’ve described, such as stomach problems after eating, feeling full quickly, fatigue, and tingling in your hands and feet, might suggest other conditions that also need to be evaluated. I strongly recommend scheduling an appointment with a healthcare provider for a thorough assessment, including these tests. That way, we can get a clear understanding of what’s going on and how best to treat it.
Thanks
