Hello Doctor,
Since 2014, I’ve had recurring colds. At 20, I started coughing up blood occasionally (about 15 times over four years). I also experience sudden back pain, which started when I was 8. Now, at 24, I’m concerned, especially since my brother had mild pneumonia. I haven’t had a chest X-ray since 2019. Could this be serious? Should I get tested again?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
1. Pneumonia vs. TB – Both are lung infections with similar symptoms but require different treatments.
2. Causes – Pneumonia is caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi, while TB is caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which spreads through the air.
3. Symptoms – Pneumonia includes fever, chills, cough, and chest pain. TB causes a persistent cough, coughing up blood, weight loss, and night sweats.
4. Your Symptoms – Recurring colds, coughing up blood, and back pain could indicate an infection requiring further tests.
5. Next Steps – A chest X-ray and sputum test are recommended. Consult a doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment.
Thanks
