Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I’m a 14-year-old girl, turning 15 in June. I’m currently 139 cm tall and weigh 50 kg. My mom is 149 cm, and my dad is over 160 cm. I’m really curious to know if I’ll still grow taller and, if so, how much more can I expect to grow?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

1. In general, females experience most of their height growth during puberty and typically stop growing about two years after their first period. However, this is not a strict rule, as growth can continue at a slower pace depending on genetics, nutrition, and overall health. Since you're 14 and turning 15 soon, if you had your first period within the last couple of years, you may still grow a little more.

2. To support your growth potential, maintaining a balanced diet, getting enough sleep, and engaging in regular physical activity can be beneficial. If you’re concerned about your height, a doctor can assess your growth plates through an X-ray to determine if you still have room to grow.

Thanks
