Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I've noticed a small bump near my anus, and I'm not sure what it could be. It doesn't hurt much, but it's a bit uncomfortable at times. Should I be concerned? Could it be something serious like a hemorrhoid, skin tag, or something else? I'd appreciate any guidance on what this might be and if I need to see a doctor.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

It’s possible that the bump could be a hemorrhoid, an anal skin tag, a boil, or even an STI like genital warts or herpes. Without a physical examination, it’s difficult to determine the exact cause. If the bump is painful, growing, bleeding, or accompanied by other symptoms like itching or discharge, I recommend seeing a doctor, preferably a general surgeon or a proctologist—for an evaluation. They can assess whether further tests or treatment are needed.

Thanks
