Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I’m 23 years old, weigh 65kg, and have spinal TB. I took 2 tablets daily for 3 months with Isoniazid 150mg, Rifampicin 225mg, Ethambutol 400mg, and Pyrazinamide 750mg. Now I’m on Isoniazid 300mg, Rifampicin 450mg, and Ethambutol 800mg daily. I’m improving, but are these doses correct for my weight? How long do I need to continue the treatment?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

For a 65kg adult with normal liver and kidney function, standard daily doses for spinal TB are: Isoniazid 300mg, Rifampicin 600mg, Pyrazinamide 1,500mg (first 2 months), and Ethambutol 1,200mg (first 2 months). The continuation phase usually lasts 10–12 months with Isoniazid and Rifampicin. Your current doses are slightly lower than standard, especially for Rifampicin and Ethambutol, but if you’re improving and being monitored by your doctor, it may be adjusted for your case. Always follow your doctor’s guidance and complete the full course.

Thanks
