Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I have been unwell for at least eight months. I have severe bipolar disorder, but a few months ago, I experienced something strange—my hand felt like it wasn't part of my body. Then, I couldn't get up or walk unless I held onto the wall. I was taken to the hospital and improved somewhat, but I still can't walk properly. My leg doesn't hurt, but the issue seems to be in my knee. A walk that used to take me 15 minutes now takes an hour. I was prescribed Neorobion, but I haven’t been taking it. What could be causing this, and what should I do?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

1. Your symptoms could be due to multiple causes, including knee issues or a problem originating from your lower back. The first step is to get an X-ray of your knee and lumbar spine to determine if there are any structural abnormalities.

2. In the meantime, you can start taking Celecoxib 200 mg, one tablet twice a day after meals for 10 days. However, since you have bipolar disorder, please consult your psychiatrist before starting this medication to ensure there are no interactions with your current treatment. Celecoxib is a strong and safe anti-inflammatory medication that can help reduce any inflammation contributing to your weakness.

3. Additionally, you should begin physical therapy to improve mobility and strength. I also recommend consulting an orthopedic specialist for a thorough manual examination to pinpoint the exact cause of your symptoms.

Thanks
