Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I recently finished my period and was wondering if I would still be fertile just four days after it ended. Is this a good time to try to conceive, or is it too early in my cycle?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

1. I understand you're asking whether it's possible to get pregnant just 4 days after your period ends. Typically, it's unlikely because your follicle won't be fully matured within that time frame. Ovulation, when the egg is released, usually occurs about 14 days after the first day of your period. The most fertile window is generally around days 13, 14, and 15 of your cycle.

2. However, it's important to note that sperm can survive inside the female reproductive tract for up to 5 days, and the viability of the egg (ovum) is typically around 12-24 hours. So, while pregnancy is unlikely 4 days after your period, it's still possible depending on the timing of ovulation and sperm viability.

Thanks
