Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I was supposed to get my period last week, but it still hasn’t come. I want to make sure I’m not pregnant, but I’m not sure which home pregnancy test to use. Most of the ones I see online are for testing before a missed period. Do you have any recommendations on which test would be best for me?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

1. A urine pregnancy test is the easiest and most convenient option to check for pregnancy at home. Since your period is already late, any standard home pregnancy test should provide an accurate result at this point. Look for tests that detect hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) levels in urine, such as First Response, Clearblue, or any reputable brand available at your local pharmacy.

2. For the most accurate results, take the test using your first-morning urine, as it contains the highest concentration of hCG. If the test is negative and your period still doesn’t arrive in a few days, you may want to repeat the test or consult a doctor for further evaluation.

Thanks
