Hello Doctor,
I’m a 30+ female, and I experience episodes where my entire body goes completely numb, and I can’t move any part of it. During these episodes, my teeth clench so tightly that I can’t open my mouth, no matter how hard I try. I also lose consciousness for about an hour. When I wake up, my body hurts all over. I’ve visited several local doctors, but none have been able to provide a proper diagnosis. They’ve told me it’s not a neurological problem, but I’m still concerned. Could this be a neurological issue, and if so, what could be the cause? Also, what kind of treatment should I seek for this condition?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
Based on the symptoms you've described, it is important to undergo a thorough evaluation by a neurologist. The episodes of complete body numbness, muscle rigidity (clenching of the teeth), loss of consciousness, and subsequent pain could indicate several potential neurological causes. These may include ictal events (such as seizures), nonictal episodes (which may involve fainting or other fainting-like conditions), or dystonic movements (which can cause muscle contractions and spasms).
Thanks
