Hello Doctor,
It's been 12 days since I passed a 4mm kidney stone, but the pain hasn't gone away. I've been experiencing abdominal pain for about a month now, which moves around – sometimes it's in my bladder, sometimes in my right or left kidney, and recently it's been higher up in my chest. The pain varies between a 2/10 and 6/10, and it's intermittent, happening randomly throughout the day. However, in the past week, it's been getting worse and more frequent. I’ve noticed that it sometimes temporarily eases after I eat. I’ve had a new CT urogram, and my urologist said there’s nothing wrong with my urinary tract – no stones, no infection in my urine, and no swelling. What could be causing this ongoing pain?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
1. Based on your symptoms and the attached radiology report, it’s possible that the kidney stone you passed has left a minor scar in your urinary tract. This can sometimes cause lingering discomfort for a few days as the area heals. The pain you’re experiencing could be related to this.
2. I recommend taking mild painkillers for the next 3-5 days to help manage the discomfort and support the healing process. If the pain persists or worsens after a week, I suggest following up with your urologist for further evaluation and possible additional tests to ensure there’s no other underlying issue.
Thanks
