Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I had a hairline fracture in my wrist back in December, and a plaster cast was applied. However, even after the plaster was removed, I continue to experience pain every 2 to 3 days. My wrist also swells up, and I am unable to move it properly. Should I be concerned about this ongoing pain and limited mobility, or is this normal after a fracture?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

It’s normal to experience some discomfort and swelling after a wrist fracture, but ongoing pain and limited mobility should be addressed. The stiffness could be due to weak muscles or inflammation around the injury.

I recommend:

1. Follow-up visit to check for any complications and consider an X-ray.

2. Physical therapy to improve movement and strength.

3. Pain management with ice and anti-inflammatory medication.

Thanks
